[Aesop Georgetown](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aesop-outlet), a [hair and skincare retailer](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/innisfree-store) located in the historic Washington, DC, neighborhood, has recently received a redesign from New York studio Tacklebox. Though visually striking, the redesign is most notable for the quality of the materials used: the walls are lined with 30,000 sticks that are each over 100 years old.

Of course, the [sticks lining the walls](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/onyx-aether) of Aesop Georgetown aren't just any old pieces of wood. Georgetown thrived through the early years of the American republic thanks to the help of the tobacco trade that flowed through the area on the banks of the Potomac River. Tobacco barns in and around Georgetown would use southern pine sticks to dry the leaves, and the walls of Aesop Georgetown are lined with these selfsame simple tools.
