Adrien De Melo has designed a [cubicle bookcase](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/qurv) that's suspended on a ceiling. The transparency theme was De Melo's belief that [books can be intimidating](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/reading-nooks), but by making them visible, they become exposed and readily available. The Upside Down bookcase is certainly an interesting approach to the [conventional shelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wallmounted-storage) we're used to. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.0/10 - Popularity: 67% | Activity: 76% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Transparent Furniture:** Creating furniture designs that incorporate transparency can provide a unique and visually appealing aesthetic that challenges traditional designs. - **Suspended Storage:** Exploring the concept of suspending storage solutions can open up new possibilities for optimizing space and creating innovative storage solutions. - **Visible Design:** Designing products and furniture that expose their inner workings or contents can offer a sense of curiosity and accessibility, challenging conventional design norms. ### Where This Applies - **Furniture Design:** Incorporating transparency into furniture designs can create disruptive innovation opportunities for companies in the furniture design industry, attracting customers who appreciate unique and visually appealing aesthetics. - **Interior Design:** Exploring suspended storage solutions can provide opportunities for interior designers to optimize space and introduce innovative design elements, enhancing the overall functionality and visual appeal of interior spaces. - **Home Decor:** Creating products that feature visible design elements can disrupt the home decor industry by appealing to customers who seek out unique and unconventional design choices for their living spaces. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Sculptural Bookshelves Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sculptural-bookshelf.md) - [Minimalist Bookish Shelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/minimal-bookshelf.md) - [Abstract Jigsaw-Like Shelving](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spectator-shelf.md) - [Sliding Wintery Landscape Bookshelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/manhwabang-bookshelf.md) - [Book-Storing Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bookgroove-bookrack.md) - [Dynamic Architecturally Strong Bookshelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dogma.md) - [Temporary Translucent Libraries](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/la-liberia.md) - [Dynamic Storage-Display Shelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shelf-life.md) - [Dynamic Geometric Bookshelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cheft.md)
