# Dual-Door Washing Machines The 'AddWash' Washing Machine Made Its Debut at CES 2016 By Katherine Pendrill | Published 2016-01-07 | Tech Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/addwash References: [digitaltrends](http://www.digitaltrends.com/home/want-to-add-more-clothes-to-a-laundry-load-samsungs-addwash-has-a-door-for-that/) & [news.samsung](http://news.samsung.com/global/no-washing-left-behind-thanks-to-the-samsung-ww8500-addwash) [Samsung's](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aipowered-bespoke-washer) 'WW8500 AddWash' washing machine recently made its debut at CES 2016. One of the advantages of a top-loading washing machine is the ability to add clothes to a load mid-cycle. However, this is not an option on front-loading machines, which generally lock once a cycle has begun. [Samsung new washing machine](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/samsung-bespoke-ai-washer) solves the problem of adding extra clothes to a cycle through the use of a secondary door. Instead of the singular opening that is customary on front-loading machines, the WW8500 AddWash has a secondary door built into the main door. This smaller opening allows consumers to add extra clothes or items such as fabric softener after a cycle has already begun. To access the smaller door, users simply need to press a button that will temporarily halt the cycle until they have added all of their extra items. The dual-door washing machine is particularly useful for European consumers who primarily use front-loading washers. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.5/10 - Popularity: 38% | Activity: 60% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Gadgets](https://www.trendhunter.com/gadgets) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Dual-door Washing Machines:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop new washing machine models with dual-door designs to allow for mid-cycle additions of clothes or items. - **Addwash Technology:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Introduce additive features to existing washing machines, such as secondary doors or compartments, to enable users to add extra clothes or items during the washing cycle. - **Smart Laundry Appliances:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Incorporate smart technology into washing machines, enabling users to remotely monitor and control the washing process via smartphone apps. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Appliance Manufacturing:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Collaborate with appliance manufacturers to develop and produce dual-door washing machines and other innovative laundry appliances. - **Home Appliance Retail:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Offer a wide range of washing machines with innovative features, such as AddWash technology, to cater to the demand for convenient and efficient laundry solutions. - **Smart Home Technology:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Integrate smart laundry appliances into the broader ecosystem of smart home technology, allowing users to create automated and energy-efficient laundry routines. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [AI-Powered Bespoke Washers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aipowered-bespoke-washer.md) - [Space-Saving AI-Powered Washing Machines](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/samsung-bespoke-ai-11kg-spacemax.md) - [Single-Unit Washer-Dryers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/washtower.md) - [AI-Powered Smart Home Appliances](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aipowered-smart-home-appliances.md) - [Eco All-in-One Laundry Appliances](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lg-washcombo.md) - [Touchscreen Washing Machines](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chiq-colorluxe-washing-machine.md) - [AI-Powered All-in-One Laundry Appliances](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lg-signature-washerdryer-with-heat-pump.md) - [Ultra-Modern Toy-Like Washing Machines](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/toshin-machine.md) - [Efficient AI Washing Machines](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/samsung-bespoke-ai-washer.md)
