# Incredibly Versatile Lighting The Ad Hoc Lamp by Michael Bernard Can Attach to Virtually Anything By Meghan Young | Published 2013-12-19 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ad-hoc-lamp References: [design-milk](http://design-milk.com/michael-bernard/) & [michaelbernard.de](http://www.michaelbernard.de/) The Ad Hoc Lamp is perhaps one of the most versatile lighting options currently on the market. It is comprised of task lamp-like parts including a base, cord and head. Yet the body is curiously missing. That is because these parts are meant to be placed on just about any object at hand. Whether that entails an umbrella, branch or simply hanging off of a rod, anything is possible with the Ad Hoc Lamp. Designed by Michael Bernard, a designer based in Berlin, Germany, the Ad Hoc Lamp is not only adaptable, it is also quite stylish. Of course, this is influenced in large part to whatever a person might choose to prop it up with, but this choice tailors it to every household. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.2/10 - Popularity: 27% | Activity: 2% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Versatile Lighting:** The trend of creating lighting options that can be adapted to various objects and surfaces. - **Modular Lighting:** The trend of creating lighting options that can be easily customized and transformed into different configurations. - **Multifunctional Lighting:** The trend of creating lighting options that can serve multiple purposes beyond just illuminating a space. ### Who This Affects Most - **Interior Design:** Adaptable lighting options can revolutionize the way designers approach lighting fixtures, creating more possibilities for customization and personalization. - **Outdoor Gear:** Versatile lighting could be marketed to outdoor enthusiasts who need easy-to-use, durable lighting solutions when camping or exploring. - **Diy/home Improvement:** Modular and multifunctional lighting could be used in DIY projects and home improvement, providing a customizable and unique lighting solution for homeowners. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Conical Multifunctional Lamp Units](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modular-table-light.md) - [Customizable Magnetic Lamp Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modular-magnetic-lamp.md) - [Customizable Industrial Lamp Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pi-modular-lamp.md) - [Versatile Torch-Style Lighting Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cono.md) - [Modular Table Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aplat.md) - [Portable Pen-Holding Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pod-lamp-concept.md) - [Removable Head Portable Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lexon-orbe.md) - [Comforting Multifunctional Illuminators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/buddy-portable-lamp.md) - [Shape-Shifting Modular Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moodi.md)
