The Laguna Garzon Bridge was designed by Viñoly to replace an inefficient raft crossing that connected the Uruguayan cities of Maldonado and Rocha. The bridge itself sits on a series of cylindrical piles that raise it up above the water. The roadway provides a crossing for cars traveling between the cities, while the twin walkways provide a safe place for pedestrians to cross.
