Ahead of the holiday 2025 season, [Target](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/target-8) announced the launch of an accessible self-checkout experience designed to better serve guests with disabilities, including shoppers who are blind or have low vision. Starting this holiday season and continuing into early 2026, the first-of-its-kind accessible experience will roll out to self-checkout stations across Target stores nationwide, introducing a custom tactile controller co-developed by Target and touchscreen partner Elo and audio prompts.

A senior manager who is blind helped lead the project and the accessible self-checkout was closely created with the [National Federation of the Blind](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/natively-adaptive-interfaces) (NFB), which provided feedback throughout the development, design and testing process. While the guest-first innovation was developed to support shoppers with [Braille](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/accessibilityfocused-innovations) and high-contrast buttons and more, it also provides benefits for guests with motor disabilities.
