# Compartmentalized Brazilian Abodes The Acapulco House is Constructed Out of Six Compartments By Vasiliki Marapas | Published 2014-05-09 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/acapulco-house References: [contemporist](http://www.contemporist.com/2014/05/08/acapulco-house-by-flavio-castro/) & [flaviocastro.br](http://flaviocastro.com.br/) Architect Flavio Castro took an unconventional approach when designing the Acapulco House. Rather than sticking to a single structure, Castro created a home comprised of [six squares](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rua-polnia-house) that are paired off together, creating a straight-forward, accessible space. Castro also added a [pavilion in the backyard](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/casa-solai), which works to stay in conversation with the main house. Structurally, there are no transitions between the [upper and lower floors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sbc-apartment), with the pillar distances staying almost identical. The four suites of the upper floor are accessed by an illuminated hallway, creating a level of symmetry throughout. Because the home is located in São Paulo, Brazil, it is subjected to extreme heat. The architect optimized the home accordingly, including a water surface under the interior stairway that leverages air humidity on hot days. Moreover, the roof garden of the pavilion allows for a low roof temperature. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.6/10 - Popularity: 28% | Activity: 13% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: South America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Compartmentalized Homes:** The design of homes with multiple compartments creates a unique and accessible living space. - **Symmetry in Architecture:** Architects are focusing on creating symmetry in the design of homes and buildings for aesthetic harmony. - **Climate-optimized Homes:** Architects are incorporating innovative features to optimize homes for extreme weather conditions. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Architecture:** Architects have the opportunity to explore new design strategies for compartmentalized homes and symmetrical buildings. - **Construction:** Construction companies can leverage the trend of climate-optimized homes to offer innovative solutions for extreme weather conditions. - **Home Design and Decor:** Home design firms can provide products and services that cater to the demand for compartmentalized and symmetrical homes. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Discreet Modern Brazil Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jf-residence.md) - [Wooden Screen Stacked Houses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/casa-vjc-iporanga.md) - [Sculptural Inverted Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/a-house-with-an-inverted-roof.md) - [Terraced Garden-Surrounded Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lechuza-house.md) - [Contemporary Weatherized Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/acute-house.md) - [Nature-Leveraging Home Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/casa-caoba.md) - [Sleek Contemporary Brazilian Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/laguna-house.md) - [Transparent Shell-Covered Houses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/casa-brisa.md) - [Interior Courtyard Mexican Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/casa-ll.md)
