# Sculptural Abstract House Designs Guilherme Machado Vaz Debuts a White Home with Gold Accents By Kalin Ned | Published 2019-02-01 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/abstract-house References: [dezeen](https://www.dezeen.com/2019/02/01/house-in-afife-guilherme-machado-vaz-architecture-portugal/) & [guilhermemachadovaz.pt](http://www.guilhermemachadovaz.pt/) The abstract house by architect Guilherme Machado Vaz is meant to be perceived as a [playful sculpture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fractal-facade-house). The silhouette boasts a strong geometric exterior, yet the floor plan assures a "regular and compact" experience. The structure is located in Portugal, adjacent to a chapel and contributing to the stunning summery architecture. Guilherme Machado Vaz designs the abstract house to be somewhat interactive, giving residents some control over its appearance. For example, when windows are closed, the structure exudes a [minimalist aesthetic](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aip-azia-villa). However, when the shutters of the irregularly placed windows are open — the abstract house gains a cheerful quality. The interiors of the panels are [adorned in gold](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/golde-house), offering a color pop that does not go unnoticed. They subtly reference "religious triptych paintings."
