# Minimal Comfort Furniture The Abachus Table Welcomes Jovial Company By Meghan Young | Published 2010-01-23 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/abachus-table References: [contemporist](http://www.contemporist.com/2010/01/21/the-abachus-table-by-dirk-wynants-of-extremis/) & [extremis.be](http://www.extremis.be/) Although I’ve named this outdoor furniture ‘minimal comfort,’ after the designers own words, that doesn’t mean the Abachus Table isn’t comfortable at all. Actually, from the looks of it, it appears quite comfortable. Designed by Dirk Wynants, the Abachus Table features rod-like seating made to be casually leaned on for added convenience. As well, Wynants integrates an ashtray into the table to avoid littering the floor with unwanted ashes. Unforunately, the InUmbrina parasol is actually separate from the Abachus Table, but the overall look is rather fetching, is it not? ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.5/10 - Popularity: 52% | Activity: 44% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Minimalist Design:** There's an opportunity to disrupt the furniture industry by prioritizing minimalism and simplicity in design. - **Multi-purpose Furniture:** Designing furniture with multiple functions, such as an ashtray integrated into the table, can lead to innovation opportunities in the home goods industry. - **Leaning Furniture:** Furniture designed for leaning can provide a unique and comfortable experience for consumers who want an alternative to traditional seating options. ### Where This Applies - **Furniture:** By prioritizing minimalism and multi-functionality in furniture design, there is an opportunity for disruption in the home goods industry. - **Outdoor Furniture:** Designing outdoor furniture that provides comfortable and functional seating can lead to unique opportunities in the leisure and hospitality industry. - **Home Decor:** Offering leaning furniture as an alternative to traditional seating can provide a new and innovative option for consumers looking to enhance their home decor. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Geometrically Informed Outdoor Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/outdoor-table1.md) - [Minimal Outdoor Lounge Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bask-lounge.md) - [Ubiquitous Simplistic Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/skagerak.md) - [Wood-Mimicking Furniture Sets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/stool-and-table.md) - [Unconventional Outdoor Furniture Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/new-joy-furniture.md) - [Aesthetically Pleasing Minimalist Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/minimalist-chairs.md) - [Ultra-Modern Outdoor Furniture Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/outdoor-furniture-collections.md) - [Multifunctional Park Picnic Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/foldable-picnic-furniture.md) - [Durable Designer Furniture Pieces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/r24-collection.md)
