# Shellfish Sofas The Ostrea Sofa Will Make Your Living Room Happier than a Clam By Michael Hines | Published 2010-06-01 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/Ostrea-sofa References: [dezeen](http://www.dezeen.com/2010/05/26/ostrea-sofa-by-annika-goransson/) & [annikagoransson](http://www.annikagoransson.com/) I'm not a huge fan of eating oysters, but the Ostrea sofa makes sitting on them look damn comfy. My opinion of oysters is shifting slightly. The Ostrea sofa was designed by Swedish design student Annika Göransson. This sofa looks [incredibly comfy](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/knoll-perron-pillo) and features a [simple gray and black color scheme](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fossil-furniture) with orange accents. The only way the [Oyster Sofa](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/poet-sofa) could get any better would be if it made pearls. A boy can always dream. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.3/10 - Popularity: 55% | Activity: 37% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Home](https://www.trendhunter.com/home) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Seashell-inspired Furniture:** Opportunity for furniture designers to create unique pieces inspired by the ocean. - **Comfort-focused Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity for designers to prioritize comfort in furniture design as an appealing selling point. - **Sustainability in Furniture:** A growing trend in furniture design is focusing on using sustainable materials for eco-conscious consumers. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Furniture Manufacturing:** Furniture manufacturers have the opportunity to create unique designs through natural and ocean-inspired themes. - **Interior Design:** Growing demand for unique design has expanded to include the converging of natural themes and comfort in interior design. - **E-commerce:** E-commerce platforms can create a specific category targeting those who are interested in unique and sustainable designs. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Modular Butter-Inspired Sofas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/butter-sofa.md) - [Plush Sculptural Lounge Sofas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rokko.md) - [Organically Shaped Sofas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/repose-sofa.md) - [Ultra-Comfy Seating Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cushy-lounge-chair.md) - [Compact Pillowy Furniture Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sander-series.md) - [Realistic Bread-Inspired Sofas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-loafa.md) - [Organic Contour Couch Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/siwa-sofa.md) - [High-Back Embracing Sofas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cozmo-hug.md) - [Voluptuous Texture Sofa Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bretz-balaao.md)
