# Barnyard-Inspired Architecture MU Architecture's Malbaie VIII Residence is Like a Modern Log Home By Laura McQuarrie | Published 2014-09-19 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/Malbaie-VII-Residence References: [design-milk](http://design-milk.com/modern-barn-like-residence-mu-architecture/) & [architecture-mu](http://architecture-mu.com/?project=malbaie-viii) The Malbaie VIII Residence designed by [MU Architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/memphremagog-lake-residence) is a cozy house in Quebec that draws inspiration from the barnyard. The design makes use of [cedar planks and gray metal siding](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/meadowlark) that contrast in color as well as the direction they were installed. Although the house design mimics that [classic barn shape](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/twisted-house1), the material choices, cutouts and shapes on the house give it a modern look. On the inside of the house, the dark tone of the concrete flooring is warmed by cozy wood cladding that wraps around the interior walls. This is continued throughout the home, making it like a modern, cozy log cabin. The house looks just as big as it does from the outside, with room for four bedrooms, each with their own private bathroom. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.8/10 - Popularity: 68% | Activity: 39% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Barnyard-inspired Architecture:** Exploring innovative ways to integrate natural and rustic elements into modern architectural designs. - **Contrasting Material Choices:** Embracing the use of contrasting materials to create visual interest and unique aesthetics in architectural designs. - **Cozy Wood Cladding:** Utilizing warm wood cladding to create a cozy and inviting atmosphere in interior spaces. ### Where This Applies - **Architecture:** Opportunity for architects and designers to creatively reinterpret traditional architectural elements and combine them with modern designs. - **Construction:** Incorporating contrasting materials and textures in construction projects to enhance visual appeal and create distinctive structures. - **Interior Design:** Using wood cladding to add warmth and texture to interior spaces, creating a cozy and welcoming environment. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Barn Home Transformations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bulls-barn.md) - [Thoughtful Lakeside Home Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lakeside-living.md) - [Log Cabin-Inspired Modern Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/balbek-bureau.md) - [Forest-Nestled Dynamic Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/q88-residence.md) - [Angular Modern Lakeside Houses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/memphremagog-lake-residence.md) - [Corrugated Metal Barn-Like Houses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/studioac.md) - [Contemporary Mountainous Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mountainous-home.md) - [Prefabricated Timber Barn Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/north-fork.md) - [Barn-Form Family Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/twisted-house1.md)
