# Mixed-Gender Saunas This Finnish Sauna Lets Men and Women Bathe Together By Rahul Kalvapalle | Published 2016-07-06 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/Loyly-Finnish-sauna References: [gizmag](http://www.gizmag.com/loyly-sauna-hernesaari-helsinki-finland/44179/) & [avan.to](http://www.avan.to/saunakyla/saunakyla.htm) The Loyly is an innovative new Finnish sauna that stands out among the increasingly crowded field of Scandinavian saunas in that it embraces a [mixed-gender policy](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sober-sauna) wherein male and female visitors can bathe and enjoy the sauna facilities together in comfort. This Finnish sauna is unusual even from the outside in that it features an eye-catching shape that is perhaps best described as a [wooden cloak](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jonas-sauna). This cloak consists of thousands of planks of wood. The result is a layer that both offers a decorative function as well as privacy. However, the most interesting feature of this sauna is the fact that it aims to evolve Finnish nude bathing culture and create an environment where men and women can bathe together without embarrassment and discomfort. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.9/10 - Popularity: 91% | Activity: 78% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/architecture) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Mixed-gender Saunas:** Opportunity for creating more inclusive and diverse wellness spaces. - **Scandinavian Saunas:** Opportunity to incorporate innovative designs and features in traditional sauna experiences. - **Evolution of Nude Bathing Culture:** Opportunity to redefine societal norms and promote body positivity in wellness activities. ### Who This Affects Most - **Wellness and Spa:** Opportunity to cater to a wider customer base by offering mixed-gender sauna experiences. - **Architecture and Design:** Opportunity to create unique sauna structures that promote privacy and aesthetic appeal. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Hammam-Inspired Sauna Cubicles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/logica-plus.md) - [Nature-Inspired Museum Extensions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/art-sauna.md) - [Scandinavian-Inspired Wellness Saunas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/thermasol-1.md) - [Contemporary Public Bathhouses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/round-about-baths.md) - [Architectural Home Saunas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-luminar.md) - [Communal Wooden Peninsula Saunas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hotspot.md) - [Ultra-Modern Luxury Saunas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/thermalux-sauna.md) - [Modern Bathhouse Expansions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sauna-house.md) - [Timber Sauna Structures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jonas-sauna.md)
