# Book-Built House Decor Artist Frank Halmans Turns Literary Classics into Houses with Windows By Tia Clarke | Published 2013-01-22 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/DIY-book-art References: [designboom](http://www.designboom.com/art/built-of-books-by-frank-halmans/) & [frankhalmans.nl](http://www.frankhalmans.nl/) Suddenly our book shelf is feeling a little underwhelming after getting a peek at this Dutch artist's DIY [book art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fragmenti). Frank Halmans carved a series of classic books into [mini houses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dollhouse-concept) in these inspired designs as part of his [exhibition](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dwellings-project) 'Built of Books'. The books are lined up on shelves with windows and doors intricately carved through the entire set. The works are intended to explore ideas of domesticity and memory and reinforce that fact that "the selected titles have no particular meaning and are not exceptional literary works." While there is an intellectual reason behind these creations -- we also think that this would be a great way to spruce up your home or bedroom.
