# Unorthodox Still Life Photography The 9th Vice Photo Issue Reinvents the Rules By Tiana Reid | Published 2010-07-14 | Pop Culture Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/9th-vice-photo-issue References: [viceland](http://www.viceland.com/int/v17n7/htdocs/index.php?page=16) The 9th Vice Photo Issue is dedicated to the wonderful world of still life photography. Sounds boring, huh? After all, still life is most typically art that depicts inanimate objects -- most notably flowers, pots and vases. Well, this is Vice magazine we're talking about here so the publication's take on still life is more David Lynch than Vincent van Gogh. Lynch is included in the list of photographers featured in the 9th Vice Photo Issue, along with heavy-hitters like Terry Richardson, Juergen Teller, Spike Jones and Ryan McGinley. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.6/10 - Popularity: 99% | Activity: 92% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 10% men, 90% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Pop Culture](https://www.trendhunter.com/popculture) > [Media](https://www.trendhunter.com/media) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Unconventional Still Life:** Exploration of unusual objects and themes in still life photography. - **Experimental Photography:** Pushing boundaries in visual storytelling through unconventional techniques. - **Surrealism in Photography:** Incorporating surreal and dreamlike elements into still life photography. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Art and Photography:** New opportunities for artists to explore unconventional themes and techniques. - **Fashion and Advertising:** Opportunities for brands to create visually stunning and non-traditional campaigns. - **Media and Entertainment:** Incorporation of surreal and unconventional imagery in film and television productions. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Unconventional Foodie Magazines](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/food-magazine.md) - [Unique Artistic Books](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/amusebouche.md) - [Archival Pigment Art Print](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/parallax.md) - [British Youth-Culture Photography Books](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/home-and-away.md) - [Art-Tech Zine Collaborations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/twentynine-zine.md) - [Painting-Immersive Photo Exhibits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/new-ground-exhibition.md) - [Analog Photo Simulators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vint.md) - [Surrealist Beauty Lines](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/toiletpaper-magazine.md) - [Skateboard-Themed Photography Books](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rabbit-hole-1.md)
