# Firearm-shaped Light Fixtures The 9mm Gun Sconce by Ryan Weigner is Dangerously Domestic By Meghan Young | Published 2012-08-21 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/9mm-gun-sconce References: [neatorama](http://www.neatorama.com/2012/08/17/Gun-Sconces/) & [etsy](http://www.etsy.com/listing/67753865/9mm-gun-sconce) The 9mm Gun Sconce is a gangster light fixture made for a gangster household. That, or it is made for the super macho man looking to confirm his machoism. Either way, it is a serious creation that will capture people's attention immediately. The sconce has been modeled after two 9mm guns. It is so realistic, it wouldn't be at all surprising if someone mistook it for the real deal. In reality, however, the 9mm Gun Sconce is [slip-cast in ceramic](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nova-pendant-light) through plaster molds. Conceived and created by Ryan Weigner, a ceramic artist based in Los Angeles, the 9mm Gun Sconce comes with a [matte black top hat shade](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/impulse-wall-light) lined with gold to cast a warmer light than would be expected from it. As dangerous as it looks, it is still strangely welcoming. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.4/10 - Popularity: 14% | Activity: 51% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Weapon-shaped Decor:** There is potential for disruptive innovation in the market of weapon-shaped home decor, transforming traditionally aggressive items into creative statement pieces. - **Hyperrealistic Designs:** Hyperrealistic designs will become more prominent as consumers seek out unique and eye-catching statement pieces for their homes. - **Alternative Lighting:** Alternative lighting options that deviate from standard fixtures will continue to gain popularity as consumers seek out distinctive decor pieces. ### Where This Applies - **Home Decor:** As a subcategory of home decor, the weapon-shaped decor trend offers niche opportunities for businesses willing to take risks with bold and unconventional designs. - **Ceramics:** Ceramic artists and studios could capitalize on the hyperrealistic designs trend by incorporating intricate details into their work and producing statement pieces for home decor. - **Lighting:** Lighting companies can tap into the alternative lighting trend by creating unusual and daring fixtures that attract consumers looking for unique pieces to elevate their homes. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Flower-Inspired Sconce Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/daisy-sconce.md) - [Printed Circuit Sconces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/printed-circuit.md) - [Shell-Like Structural Wall Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/barnacle-wall-sconce.md) - [Slab-Structural Lighting Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tera-sconce.md) - [Metal Pleated Wall Fixtures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/donna-wall-light.md) - [Sporty Wall-Mounted Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/3dprinted-lamp-1.md) - [Bakery-Inspired Pendant Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/croissant-pendant-light.md) - [Minimal Paper Sconces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pin-sconce.md) - [Instrument-Inspired Wall Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/louis-collection-by-sara-schoenberger.md)
