In a bid to make the [streets of London safer](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/londons-cycleway-network), the [Westminster City Council](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lakwena-maciver) places a 3D zebra crossing. The marking has a distinct illusory aesthetic and is intended to capture the attention of drivers and motorcyclists, ultimately encouraging them to slow down when approaching and come to a safe stop if necessary.

The 3D zebra crossing is located on St John's Wood High Street in Westminster. The marking is in its trial stage as the council wants to tests the [illusory road feature's](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/active-worksite) effectiveness before rolling it out across the Westminster borough. The trial will last about a year and the occurrence of road accidents in the area will be closely monitored.

Similar concepts of illusory crossing markings have been implemented in other countries like America, New Zealand, India and more.
