# 3-D Light Graffiti Illuminated Calligraphy Art By Pearl | Published 2008-08-26 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/3-d-light-graffiti-illuminated-calligraphy-art-and-photography-by-julien-br References: [blog.sub-studio](http://blog.sub-studio.com/2008/08/light-calligraphy-by-julien-breton.html) & [kaalam](http://www.kaalam.com/) French calligraphic artist, Julien Breton and his photographic collaborator, Guillaume J. Plisson have created some pretty amazing light calligraphy. Their work could also be called *illuminated 3-D space writing* or *air painting*. They used a combination of different LED light sources like glow sticks in conjunction with and time lapse photography techniques to create their work. The pictures were taken in situ - with a watery reflection, against walls and different landscapes or against a starry night sky. No retouching and no Photoshop work was used. More light calligraphy photos can be seen on [Plisson’s Flickr page](http://www.flickr.com/photos/16829141@N05/1792594912/in/photostream/) and in the video. There is also a book called “LightGraff” available (details are on Breton’s website). Breton has been passionate about Latin calligraphy since he was 5. He expresses his artistic talent entirely through this medium. Breton also draws his inspiration from Arabic, Chinese and Japanese calligraphy. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.0/10 - Popularity: 74% | Activity: 99% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Light Calligraphy:** Opportunities for new art forms and creative advertising using light calligraphy techniques. - **3D Printing:** Integrating 3D printing technology to create three-dimensional light calligraphy pieces. - **Time-lapse Photography:** Developing new and innovative uses for time-lapse photography, such as creating stunning works of light calligraphy. ### Who This Affects Most - **Advertising:** Creating eye-catching and unique advertisements using light calligraphy techniques. - **Art and Design:** Exploring new forms of artistic expression and design using light calligraphy. - **Photography:** Innovating new uses for time-lapse photography in the fields of art, design, and advertising. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Festive Light Painting Techniques](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/light-painting-1.md) - [Tree Branch-Formed Lighting Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/celestial-attraction.md) - [Life-Like 3D Canvases](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lumino.md) - [Math-Driven Lighting Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/alba-light.md) - [Illuminated Curtained Light Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/making-the-invisible-visible.md) - [Paper Curvature Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/paper-curves.md) - [Evolved Vibrant Graffiti Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jan-kalb.md) - [Immersive Light Exhibits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spencer-finch.md) - [Physics-Based Artful Light Capsules](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/aura-collection-1.md)
