# Double-Sided Thumbdrives The 2-Top USB Stick Has Connecting Strips Facing Both Directions By Amelia Roblin | Published 2013-11-20 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/2top-usb References: [red-dot.sg](http://www.red-dot.sg/en/online-exhibition/concept/?code=988&y=2013&c=12&a=0) Without an initial close look at your [flash drive](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/raspberry-pi-flash-drive) and the computer's port, you've got a 50/50 chance of inserting the device correctly on your first attempt. The 2-Top USB key guarantees proper insertion every single time, because it can be read in either orientation. This fairly simple modification to the memory stick was made by Shen Shurun and Deng Xingxing of Anhui Jianzhu University. Even with its [two-faced assembly](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/adata-sc730), the duo managed to make it about half of the thickness of most of the pen drives on the market. This extra flatness renders the 2013 Red Dot concept increasingly portable, especially in combination with its [miniature carabiner clip](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hubkey). The 2-Top USB stick gets additional desirability points for the range of bright colors in which it comes. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.5/10 - Popularity: 65% | Activity: 63% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Reversible USB:** The trend of creating USB devices with connectors that can be inserted in either orientation, providing ease of use and eliminating the need to determine the correct orientation. - **Slim Design:** The trend of designing slim and compact USB drives that are highly portable and convenient for users to carry around. - **Colorful USB Drives:** The trend of offering USB drives in a wide range of bright and vibrant colors, increasing their desirability and allowing users to personalize their devices. ### Where This Applies - **Technology:** The technology industry can benefit from the trend of reversible USB drives by producing devices that are more user-friendly and eliminate the frustration of inserting USBs in the wrong orientation. - **Consumer Electronics:** The consumer electronics industry can capitalize on the trend of slim design USB drives by incorporating them into smaller and lighter devices, enhancing portability and convenience for consumers. - **Promotional Products:** The promotional products industry can take advantage of the trend of colorful USB drives by offering customized options in various colors, allowing businesses to create personalized and eye-catching promotional items for their customers. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Four-Way Connective Flash Drives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/centralspot-innovation.md) - [Icon-Shaped USB Drives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/folderdrive.md) - [Object-Resembling USB Drives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sandisk-1.md) - [Record-Setting Compact Storage Drives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/extreme-fit-usb-c.md) - [Bird-Shaped USB Flash Drives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pinge.md) - [Playful Crayon USB Drives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sandisk-crayola-usbc.md) - [Spherical Double-Sided Keyboards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/google-gboard.md) - [Modern Aluminum USB Holders](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bitlounge.md) - [Hyper-Efficient Connectivity Hubs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/save-usb-ssd-hub.md)
