# Playful Portuguese Interiors The Remodeled 227 Flat by OODA Merges Acrobatics and Architecture By Amelia Roblin | Published 2012-07-29 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/227-flat-by-ooda References: [plusmood](http://plusmood.com/2012/07/227-flat-ooda/) & [ooda.eu](http://www.ooda.eu/) A brilliant way to breathe new life into a tired building is to take the approach that was exercised in the 227 Flat by [OODA Architects](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arena-liga-portugal). The two-storey apartment is wedged into a tightly packed residential neighborhood in Porto with a slender floor plan and few opportunities for drawing in sunlight. Confronting these challenges, the designers didn't simply rework the dwelling to produce satisfactory living spaces. Instead, they went above and beyond to create an [exceptionally bright abode](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/foksal) with a slew of quirky features that enhance the house's individuality. A [compact staircase](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sbc-apartment) is cloaked in warm wooden cladding, white walls provide the illusion of space and skylights pull brilliant rays from the roof to the first floor. However, the favorite feature of the 227 Flat by OODA might just be its suspended net hammock that hangs over the stairwell. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.8/10 - Popularity: 83% | Activity: 83% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Gen Alpha, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/architecture) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Bright Interiors:** Creating exceptionally bright living spaces through clever design features. - **Compact Staircases:** Utilizing compact staircases with unique and visually appealing designs. - **Hammock Spaces:** Incorporating suspended net hammocks as an innovative and playful element in interior design. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Architecture:** Innovative design approaches that enhance living spaces and maximize sunlight in compact urban settings. - **Interior Design:** Creating unique and visually appealing spaces that prioritize light and incorporate playful elements like suspended net hammocks. - **Residential Construction:** Building and renovating homes with clever design features that optimize natural light and provide interesting and unexpected elements. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Sculptural Inverted Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/a-house-with-an-inverted-roof.md) - [Bright Urban Apartments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-64.md) - [Dynamically Patterned Portuguese Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/087-house.md) - [Curved Surface Portuguese Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/a-house-within-a-few-lines.md) - [Bright Colorful Converted Apartments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/so-sebastio-123.md) - [Well-Lit Contemporary Attics](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/marvila-attic.md) - [Warehouse-Transformed Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-of-many-faces.md) - [Sloped Site Concrete Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/oeiras-house.md) - [Compact Madrid Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/burr-studio-1.md)
