[Athletes competing](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/athletes-village) in the 2010 Vancouver Winter Games can look forward to wearing one of these uniquely designed [Olympic medals](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chocolate-medals) around their neck. The [Vancouver Organizing Committee](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/marpole-community-centre) revealed the new designs today which, for the first time in Olympic history, are not flat.

Each of the medals are also unusually heavy, weighing in at 500-576 grams or the equivalent of 71 loonies. Internationally renowned Canadian industrial designer and Vancouver resident Omer Arbel fashioned the warped medal design. Each medal features breathtaking landscape-inspired contemporary Aboriginal artwork.
