# Muscle Car Data Storage The 1979 Pontiac Trans Am Hard Drive Pays Tribute to American Classics By Michael Hines | Published 2011-09-17 | Autos Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/1979-pontiac-trans-am-hard-drive References: [technabob](http://technabob.com/blog/2011/09/15/pontiac-trans-am-hard-drive/) & [etsy](http://www.etsy.com/listing/64587837/1979-pontiac-trans-am-500gb-hard-drive) I have officially finished my Christmas shopping for the car aficionado in my life after seeing the 1979 Pontiac Trans Am hard drive. This hard drive is modeled after the classic muscle car driven by Burt Reynolds in "Smokey and the Bandit." The model is 1:18 the size of the actual car and packs 500GB of memory. How Etsy seller Coast2CoastDeals managed to cram a hard drive inside of a model Trans Am is a mystery to me. The only indication that this car is not meant to sit on a shelf is the rear end which has a port for a USB cable. The price for all of this awesomeness is $275, a small price to pay for a functional tribute to one of America's great bygone car makers. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.8/10 - Popularity: 18% | Activity: 29% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 90% men, 10% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Autos](https://www.trendhunter.com/autos) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Retro-inspired Tech Accessories:** The demand for tech accessories that pay homage to classic designs and aesthetics is growing, providing a disruptive innovation opportunity for companies that can pair functional technology with unique design. - **Functional Artwork Products:** The combination of art with functional items like the 1979 Pontiac Trans Am hard drive can create new opportunities for industries, such as home decor and office supply businesses. - **Nostalgia-inspired Gadgets:** Consumers are showing an increased interest in nostalgia-inspired gadgets, offering a chance for industries to create or supplement product lines with classic designs to capture this market. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Tech Accessories:** Tech accessory companies can implement retro-inspired designs in their products to cater to an expanding market segment. - **Automotive:** Automotive companies can create lines of functional art products, like USB hard drives, that are inspired by classic car designs to appeal to car enthusiasts. - **Gifts and Novelty:** Gift and novelty industries can tap into the nostalgia-inspired gadget trend by offering unique and functional items like the 1979 Pontiac Trans Am hard drive as presents for car lovers. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Skeletal Celebratory Hard Drives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/buffalo-skeleton-hard-disk.md) - [Icon-Shaped USB Drives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/folderdrive.md) - [Retro Car-Inspired Computer Mouse](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/initial-d-3.md) - [Monolithic Desktop Hard Drives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/unidentifed-hard-disk-drive.md) - [Sci-Fi-Inspired Storage Drives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/star-trek-discovery-flash-drives.md) - [Shipping Container Storage Drives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cargo-hard-drive1.md) - [Sci-Fi-Themed Gamer SSDs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/external-ssd-drives.md) - [Celebratory Storage Drive Models](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wd-my-passport-ultra.md) - [USB-Inspired Travel Trailers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/usbinspired-travel-trailer.md)
