This architectural firm did an utterly brilliant job [refurbishing the Mayfair, London, flat](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flat-iron-house). The walls, the ceilings and the built-in storage were finished in crisp white and the floors in a pale slate shade. This consistency might have been enough to unify the apartment from front foyer to office, but the [walnut runner](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dinesen-apartment) really takes it home. Spanning the entire length of 1 Balfour Place, the hardwood ribbon harmoniously connects [disjointed levels as staircases](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pine-heath) and even terminates playfully as part of the kitchen countertop. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.1/10 - Popularity: 71% | Activity: 15% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Continuous Interior Elements:** Creating a continuous element throughout different rooms can aesthetically unite a space and provide a sense of cohesion. - **Material Harmonization:** Using a consistent material, such as a hardwood ribbon, can effectively marry diverse interior spaces and create a visually pleasing design. - **Integrating Functional Design:** Incorporating elements like a hardwood runner that terminates as part of a kitchen countertop can add playful functionality to a space. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Interior Design:** The use of continuous interior elements and material harmonization presents opportunities for innovative interior design solutions. - **Architecture:** Architects can explore the integration of functional design elements, such as hardwood runners, to enhance the visual appeal and cohesiveness of spaces. - **Home Renovation:** In the field of home renovation, incorporating continuous elements like hardwood runners can offer unique and modern design options for transforming living spaces. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Minimalist London Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/158-purley-downs-road.md) - [Reimagined Edwardian Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gunter-and-co.md) - [Refined Urban Interiors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/primrose-apartment.md) - [Mid-Century Flat Revamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/warsaw-apartment-renovation.md) - [Tactile Beverly Hills Penthouses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-scale-collective.md) - [Understated Notting Hill Renovations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/knox-bhavan-1.md) - [High-Rise Design Renos](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/watergate-piedterre.md) - [Curved Brick Entertaining Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sobremesa-house.md) - [Wood-Focused Showrooms](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dinesen-apartment.md)
