# Severed Furniture Hangers 'The 1/2=1' by Tess Hill Transforms Old Chairs into New Objects By Sarah Robson | Published 2012-06-16 | Eco Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/1-21-by-tess-hill References: [beautifullife.info](http://www.beautifullife.info/industrial-design/creative-hanger-half-one/) & [behance.net](http://www.behance.net/tesshill) 'The 1/2=1' by Tess Hill is a piece of recycled art that has a new function. Instead of throwing away old chairs, Tess has severed them, flipped them upside and mounted them to the wall. Tess Hill is a Spanish designer and artist who has taken this old conventional chair, and altered it into a hanger for clothes. This wall hook has two posts to hang clothes or hat accessories, and the sturdy middle platform can support a multitude of objects ranging from books to flower pots. Hill does an incredible job of transforming a standard piece of furniture into a completely new product with a different function. As our society becomes more waste cautious this idea for recycling furniture has come at the perfect time. It is both an interesting innovation and an eco-friendly product that prevents garbage. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.7/10 - Popularity: 75% | Activity: 89% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) > [Eco Architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/ecoarchitecture) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Upcycled Furniture:** The 'Severed Furniture Hangers' trend showcases the potential for transforming old furniture into new and functional objects. - **Multifunctional Design:** The 'Severed Furniture Hangers' trend highlights the value of creating products that have multiple uses and functions, such as hangers that can also hold books or flower pots. - **Eco-friendly Furniture:** The 'Severed Furniture Hangers' trend taps into the growing demand for sustainable and environmentally-friendly products by repurposing old chairs and preventing them from ending up in landfills. ### Who This Affects Most - **Furniture Manufacturing:** The 'Severed Furniture Hangers' trend presents an opportunity for furniture manufacturers to implement upcycling techniques and create unique, eco-friendly products. - **Interior Design:** The 'Severed Furniture Hangers' trend offers interior designers a chance to incorporate innovative and sustainable design elements by using upcycled furniture as functional decor. - **Waste Management:** The 'Severed Furniture Hangers' trend opens up avenues for waste management companies to explore partnerships with designers and artists to promote the repurposing of furniture and reduce waste. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Quirky Structural Clothes Hangers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hang-we.md) - [Abandoned Bikes-Turned Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/objects-from-frames.md) - [Storage-Conscious Clothing Hangers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/coat-hingers.md) - [Innovative Waste-Reducing Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/annabella-hevesi.md) - [Deflated Balloon Clothing Hangers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chong-shop.md) - [Expanding Garment Hangers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flip-hanger.md) - [Unexpected Boundary-Pushing Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/atypical-chair.md) - [Adaptive Furniture Displays](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/usm-haller-reframed.md) - [Recycled Dynamic Seating](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bultan-chair.md)
