Brands are venturing into the world of podcasting for consumer engagement
Trend – As podcasts become a more popular form of media, brands are creating their own branded podcasts to further connect with consumers. Since podcasts typically have a niche focus or theme, they offer more targeted platforms that speak directly to smaller groups of potential or loyal customers. These podcasts can be observed in a range of industries that include everything from alcohol to interior design.
Insight – Branded podcasts diversify businesses' reach by leveraging platforms that are already aligned with consumers' daily entertainment-based habits–particularly those of younger demographics. The shift towards creating company-specific podcasts comes as Millennial and Gen Z consumers seek out more authentic interactions with the brands they align themselves with. With many people no longer buying into the "one-size-fits-all" approach to campaigning, branded podcasting is able to cement brand loyalty for young consumers who turn to brands that appeal to their specific interests.

Seattle International Film Festival's VR Zone is Highly Anticipated
During its news report on a local VR Film Festival, The Seattle Times equates virtual reality's integration into the world of cinema to 'Arrival of a Train at La Ciotat' — the first publically shown film that scared the audience who thought that the moving picture was actually going to injure them. The Seattle International Film Festival's VR Zone opened on May 18th and it offered groups of 40 about 90 minutes of interactive storytelling and immersive narratives. From outer space documentaries to interactive hot air balloon ride installations, the event is met with great enthusiasm and curiosity.
The growth of the VR film festival, compared to last year, is astonishing. While in 2017, SIFF's Virtual Reality Zone was "just a small part of a larger festival-lounge area," in 2018 the event brings 36 global pieces of interactive films.
This Transparent Display TV Merges Seamlessly into Any Space
The television is loathed by many design aficionados who can't stand the rectangular black box that permeates millions of living rooms around the world, so this transparent display TV has been created to change this.
Featuring a nearly completely see-through design that hides the set in plain sight when not in use, the TV has a minimalistic aesthetic and hides the control components in the stand to ensure it's as sleek as possible. This makes it ideal for homes where aesthetics are a top priority and inhabitants don't want a traditional TV set that can throw things off yet still want to enjoy their favorite content.
The transparent display TV is the design work of Jang Junyoung and identifies how popular technology can be given a sleek overhaul to make it more applicable for modern consumers.
Spotify is Launching Its Own Branded Podcast, 'Ebb & Flow'
In partnership with Amsterdam Vodka, Spotify is launching its first-ever branded podcast, 'Ebb & Flow.' The podcast will give people the chance to tune into conversations with DJ Jasmine Solano, as well as various hip-hop and R&B artists.
Over the past few years, big-box retailers, supermarkets and comic book creators alike have broken into the world of podcasting, mainly using it as a tool to educate and entertain consumers, all the while offering new content and a new way to connect through a storytelling format.
As Spotify's Rob Walker describes, "Just as we do with music, we see podcast as another avenue to connect our advertising partners with audiences and, through our deep understanding of our users, help brands show up in the right way."
Tubi TV Offers Thousands of Films at No Cost to Users
Movie and television streaming options are in no short supply but Tubi TV is quickly becoming a favorite among users because it is completely free and totally legal. The service may not have the same amount of classic and current movies and TV shows as Netflix, but the service does offer up a good deal of content, all of which can be streamed straight to a tablet, iPhone or Android device without costing a single dime. The free nature of Tubi TV does mean the app shows ads but it is a small price to pay for a free streaming service.
Aside from being free, Tubi TV also manages to better the streaming experience with its clever use of navigation options. The platform cleverly offers up categories like “Not On Netflix” and “Highly Rated On Rotten Tomatoes," which allow for ease in navigation and a distinct brand image for the platform.
In an effort to better understand what's popular among children, the BBC is launching an interactive app for children under 13 called the CBBC Buzz.
The platform will release 40 unique pieces of content daily, with each one offering something that's both entertaining and kid-friendly. Aside from parental controls, children will have full access to this fresh content pool, with new releases set to launch each day before and after a child goes to school. What's most interesting about this offering is that children can react to what they're seeing in real-time using emojis.
This BBC initiative hopes to increase the number of child viewers that stream the network's content.
The 'YuVie' Social Video App Infuses You into Popular Media
The 'YuVie' social video app comes as a fun, interactive way for users to have a little bit of fun without having to worry that they don't have advanced computer skills. The app works by having users choose a video clip before pressing a single button to start recording themselves and be incorporated into the final product. This can then be shared online across the web on various social networking sites like Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
The 'YuVie' social video app speaks to the way that users are looking for solutions to switch up existing content to give it their own personal spin to make it applicable for themselves, their lifestyle, person and/or online following rather than just reposting.
The Xperia Touch Gives Users the Ability to Interact in a New Way
Sony's portable projector will now feature gesture controls on the Xperia Touch. The new technology was developed in collaboration with Israeli start-up EyeSight Technologies and will use a digital eye system to track user motions and translate them into controls. EyeSight Technologies has previously focused most of its efforts on gesture-recognizing phones, TVs and PCs, but has now shifted its focus to connected home devices and cars. Early demos of the Xperia Touch have shown its ability to project onto walls or other surfaces, with its tracking abilities demonstrated through games of Fruit Ninja or virtual piano-playing.
The Xperia Touch is just the first step for EyeSight Technologies, as the company hopes to implement its technology in cars. The company is already working with LG electronics, which already supplies some car computing technology, and hopes that its gesture control tech can be implemented into safety features on future vehicles.

Though this won't be the first instance of VR sports, these games will indeed offer up the first Winter Olympic events to be streamed live in VR. 18 of the 30 VR events will be available completely live, while the remaining 12 will be available on demand the following day.
Events on offer include many marquee offerings like Men's Downhill, Men's Snowboard Halfpipe, Pairs Free Figure Skating, Short Track Speed Skating, and Women's Ice Hockey.
From Anime Streaming Platforms to Snapchat Comedy Shows
As cord-cutting becomes more prevalent among modern audiences, niche streaming services are rising to the occasion in an attempt to make at-home entertainment a more personalized experience for all.
Additionally, television networks, and advertisers are targeting social media users with interactive and relatable content. Examples include branded webisodes, Snapchat series, and smartphone TV channel apps that require a short attention span.
Standouts in the realm of family-friendly television include Time Warner’s Boomerang TV channel which specializes in both modern-day, and retro cartoon offerings, along with YouTube Red -- a channel spotlighting original content from both Gen Z and Millennial influencers with a cult following.
Additional examples to take note of include Laugh Out Loud, a collaborative channel launched by comedian Kevin Heart and Lionsgate. This niche streaming platform exclusively airs comedy programming appealing to viewers looking to laugh, while avoiding the trap of long searches times before selecting what to watch.
