Shahidul Alam is a Bangladesh-born acclaimed documentary photographer with a PhD in philosophy from the University of London. Shahidul Alam began his career teaching and studying chemistry in London and moved into photography in 1980. Shahidul Alam is an important figure in the world of photography, having served as a jury member in the World Press Photo competition and spearheaded a number of projects and initiatives including Chobi Mela, the festival of photography in Asia.
In this charming talk, Shahidul Alam discusses his passion for bringing photography to the people and of providing a platform for aspiring photographers worldwide. Other projects Alam is a part of include Pathshala, the South Asian Institute of Photography and Majority World, a global community interest initiative.
