Author Alain de Botton discusses how to deal with status anxiety in this self worth keynote. Believing that status anxiety is destructive force in many people's lives, de Botton seeks to help new graduates find themselves in the modern world. In capitalist society, it is very common for the people around to be judgmental while participating in job snobbery caused in a matter of seconds by handing over a business card to someone.
This act becomes a frightening concept as someone's true character and personality cannot be displayed on the few lines of a small card. de Botton believes this is very problematic because "most of us carry all kinds of richness which we are unable to translate into that language." This requires much more time than expected, so de Botton recommends we take these extra moments to understand our self worth.
