Taylor Mali's hyperbolic proofreading speech emphasizes just how much, or how little, attention is put into academic submissions.
In 'The The Impotence of Proofreading,' the poet and former teacher intentionally manipulates words to produce incoherent, but still understandable, sentences to demonstrate how careless students can be. In his ridiculous rendition, Mali points out the common spelling and grammar mistakes like a sore thumb. New generations have become over-reliant on new technology. The subconscious repeated clicking of "Change" in spell check leads them to their doom when a submitted essay reflects no human editing.
The reliance on auto correct is one of the most lethal habits one could fall into. Whether it is due to laziness or dependence, the assumption that a machine can completely comprehend a human language fluently is one that should be abolished.
