Students Jeanny Yao and Miranda Wang talk about the problem presented by plastic and a potential solution in this plastic pollution speech. These bright young scientists have devoted their time to coming up with a method of dealing with harmful plastic waste. The girls were inspired to try and do their part after a visit to a Vancouver landfill, where they saw mass amounts of plastic waste.
Yao and Wang discuss phthalates found in plastic that has been linked to cancer and reproductive problems, because it absorbs into skin through touch. These two focused on finding a way to break down phthalates and found a biochemical solution to the problem.
Jeanny Yao and Miranda Wang have potentially found a way to dispose of the plastic pollution in their community, while breaking down harmful phthalates.
