In her personal branding talk, Dorie Clark puts forth ideas discussed in her book 'Reinventing You.' The marketing and communications guru previously worked in a number of different capacities, and speaks to the importance of staying relevant and top of mind in the business world, without being obnoxious.
Clark equates a personal brand to one's reputation, and talks about the three main things a person must do in order to reinvent themselves or their brand. First, one needs to uncover how they are perceived by others. Then, one figures out what it is they want to be known for or how they would like to be perceived. If there is a gap between the two, the third step is to take action to close that space and manifest things differently. Rather than being inauthentic, this personal branding talk helps others discover what makes them different, and therefore invaluable.
