In this Nigel Marsh keynote the author of 'Overworked and Underlaid' discusses the necessity of finding a proper work and life balance. Nigel discusses four points that are vital to making this change: realizing which jobs are compatible with family life, taking control of the responsibility for the lives one leads, deciding the time frame on how to judge one's balance and approaching balance in a balanced way.
There are too many individuals who, as Marsh outlines, "work jobs they hate to buy things they don't need to impress people they don't like." Too often as well do people tell themselves that the balanced life they want will be a possibility after they retire. Rather than allowing companies to decide the type of life that you want to lead, individuals need to make it a priority to determine what is appropriate for them and what they want to get out of life.
