Addressing the problem of scientific denial, this Michael Specter speech discusses that even though individuals are entitled to their own opinion, they aren't entitled to their own facts.
Within the last 100 years the world has seen a dramatic increase in life expectancy, vaccine availability and food production, however, there are still billions of people that go to bed hungry each night. Furthermore, the cost of scientific imagination and progress has thoroughly damaged the environment. Now more than ever is a time when people need to innovate their out of this problem.
People no longer have the same relationship to progress as they used to. Progress is often tainted by an ambivalent association to immoral practices and harmful effects. People have never needed scientific progress more then they need it today and the world has never been in a better position to deploy that science properly.
