The recent upgrades to Google Cloud are discussed by Francesco Nerieri in this Google Cloud presentation.
The Google Cloud Messaging system is used for sending data between Android application and servers. The recent upgrades allow for a more efficient means to send data to Android devices.
The amount of users that utilize Google Cloud Messaging has drastically increased since its launch. The application has gained a 400% increase in growth within 10 months. About 60% of the apps in the Google Play store are integrated with Google Cloud. The Google Cloud Messaging also allows developers to send tailored-made information to the users of their applications. The upgrades also reduce the environmental impact of people -- the battery life, network signalling and the amount of data that goes over the wire are reduced.
