Paul Polman, the CEO of Unilever disccuses different sustainable and equitable business models in this future strategy keynote. He uses four words to describe the world today: volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous. Typically, individuals depended on governmental institutions to manage and react to unpredictability. Technology, however, is too predictable and we need to rely on ourselves more.
He uses the example of how the Egyptian regime was toppled in only six weeks and how it marked the first time that technology played a prominent role. He argues that if business models do not do something to change direction, the world will end up exactly where it is heading.
Polman's future strategy keynote argues that it is the responsibility of Western nations to implement sustainable policies and standards.
