World AIDS Day pictures are trickling onto the web as people begin to upload remarkable images snapped yesterday from around the world. December 1 is the officially recognized AIDS awareness day around the world, and as the pictures in the gallery show, people participated in a variety of ways. Images include a man who had the AIDS ribbon painted on his back in Sri Lanka, a group of people on a bridge in Paris that formed a giant human chain to represent their unity in the fight against AIDS, over 100 bikers who gathered in Taipeh, Tawain to create an aerial image of the AIDS ribbon with their motorcycles and an image of children next to banners Olongapo, the Philippines, a striking visual as there are 2 million children currently living with AIDS. Additional images include an image of World AIDS Day support bears in Munich and a giant human condom roaming the streets of Lima, Peru for safe sex endorsement. Additional images show how people supported the day in Siliguri, Madrid, Jakarta and Minsk. World AIDS Day began in 1998, making this year the 10th anniversary since WHO decided to mark it a global day for awareness. References: worldaidsday.org, reutersFiled In: |
