For Dior’s Winter 2014 campaign, Willy Vanderperre for Dior Homme is the focal point. Titled ‘Notes of a Day,’ the creative director responsible for the fashionable piece is Kris Van Assche.

The idea behind the work is masculinity as performance, in which close up shots of model faces are juxtaposed against the same models striking a pose. For example, we see a male model dressed in a leather-clad jacket, shirt and tie, but only his face is captured in the initial image. Placed alongside the closeup cameo is a picture of the same model reclined on a chair wearing the same dress.

The juxtaposition of these images gives you sense of atmosphere and character, much like a performance.
