Virtual Godparents - Parents Put Son on eBay
[Edit]
Having a hard time finding godparents for your little one? Why not place an ad on eBay!
That’s what one family did with their son, Blaine Dale Barger, who turns one year old in February. The Bargers offered bidders the chance to become the world’s first virtual godparent.
“We’ve thought long and hard about this and have decided to auction off the chance to become a virtual godparent and perhaps more,” the post read. “You may ask ‘Are you desperate?’ My answer would simply be ‘yes.’
“Unexpected unemployment and a terrible economy to boot means we are a struggling family looking to pull any string possible to survive. I figure we can have some fun in the process to relieve some stress.”
The starting bid was US $49.99 and offered, in addition to receiving title as virtual godparent, to receive updates on little Blaine’s life.
“Every month we will send you photos of Blaine and a list of his accomplishments and goals reached for the previous month. We can do that either via Email or through the good ol’ postal system with physical pictures and the list. It’s your choice,” the post read.
“Optionally, you can even meet Blaine anytime you wish! Yes, it will be supervised as I pride myself on keeping my son in a safe environment.”
Also, 15% of the proceeds were being offered toward Charity for Children.
Want a chance to be a godparent? Looks like you’ve missed out on this bid; the auction ended earlier today, when the parents decided to pull the listing. Disappointed? Who knows, this could spur on a whole new movement of godchildren on eBay, so keep your eBaydars up.
