Dolce and Gabbana's Exceptionally Offensive Print Ads Published: Jan 16, 09 Comments: 2 Views: 17,406 According to Reuters UK, the noted Italian fashion house of Dolce and Gabbana is preparing its venom-drenched fangs to unleash yet another advertising campaign that is very likely to offend many and titillate others. The unreleased new set of Baroque-themed adverts were shot by high-profile photographer Steven Klein and will show two men on their knees praying. The influential haute couture pair claim that their inspiration for this theme came from the film “The Leopard,” which chronicles the decline of an influential Sicilian family from years past. But regardless of how this new campaign is received, let’s not forget that D & G has a long and checkered history of producing highly controversial ads that have caused widespread uproar and indignation. In many cases, the ads have been banished in countries like Italy. The most notorious of those racy and highly controversial ads show a half-naked man pinning a scantily clad woman down to the ground by her wrists while four predatory hunks look on impassibly. The disgraceful advert, which first appeared in Spain almost a year ago, seems to condone and glamorize rape and sexual violence; Dolce and Gabbana were forced to withdraw the offensive image in response to the widespread negative reaction that it received. The rape ad is only the tip of a humongous iceberg of racy campaigns images coming from D & G. As we shift our attention to the second and third images in the gallery, we’ll see a group of soldiers brandishing knives while posing around a man who is laying on the floor with a bullet hole in his forehead. The ad was banished in England on the grounds that the aggressive images glorified murder and violence. The other provocative photos from past campaigns contain an incredible dose of violence and thinly veiled sexual acts, some of which are heavily laced with highly explicit homoerotic content. Let’s all brace for the new wave of jaw-dropping adverts to come from the fashionista duo. Maybe we too should get on our knees and pray.
