As far as documentaries go, I tend to gravitate toward those that simultaneously entertain as they educate -- Vintage Tomorrows is exactly that type of film.

So what exactly is steampunk? This documentary, directed by Cherie Priest and Cory Doctorow, intends to answer that question by way of interviewing enthusiasts, tinkerers and fashionistas. In essence, steampunk is a type of anachronistic fashion that melds Victorian English aesthetics with near-future technology. When implemented in film, design or art, the genre produces fascinating results -- corsets, coattails and computers might all appear in the same scene or runway production. Vintage Tomorrows shows that the movement stems from a nostalgia for simpler, intuitive technologies whose function is made apparent after a glance.

If you've ever fostered even an inkling of interest in the steampunk way of life, give this documentary a look.
