As part of a series of 'After Dark' food events, the Mile End donut cafe was host to a vegan barbecue 'Southern Comfort Night' from Chez Boris.

While transforming traditional comfort food fare into vegan-friendly options can be a challenge, the past few years have introduced many convincing mock meats, as well as substitutes to animal products. At this vegan-friendly feast in Montreal, a few items on the menu included reimagined classics like barbecue tempeh, corn bread and braised greans.

A few years ago, vegan-friendly options were only just beginning to appear on menus. Now, this type of cuisine is now becoming the centerpiece of many full feasts, festivals and restaurants. As consumers become more mindful about the food they eat, plant-based meals provide exciting new options that are healthful and mindful.
