Legendary Fashion Icon Calls it Quits - Valentino's Last Show (VIDEO)

Valentino, a name that is synonamous with haute coutre has retired. For almost 50 years the name Valentino has added a legendary cache to fashion. The best know names in the world have come to Valentino to dress them. Money was no object for the clients of Valentino, but he didn’t let money influence his ideas or opinions about fashion.  During his long and grand career, the man born Valentino Garavani on 11 May 1932, has dressed everyone who's anyone from society's upper echelons. Known to the insider as "Le Chic", his slender and understated aesthetic is nothing if not proof that one really never can be too rich or too thin.
Valentino is credited with the iconic matching tailored day coat, shift dress and sunglasses combination that is now simply referred to as the Jackie O look. In 2000, Julia Roberts accepted the best actress award for Erin Brockovich dressed in vintage Valentino and brought about a resurgence of interest in his designs.
Valentino told Women's Wear Daily earlier this week that he would still have an office with Giammetti and that he would like to design costumes for ballet and opera. "I would love to do La Traviata," he said. "I would love to do something fabulous for the ballet. Certainly I am not the sort of person to sit all day long watching television."
In the meantime, dedicated fashion followers will have to make do with a retrospective of his work to take place at the Arts Decoratifs in Paris in June this year.
