A startup based in Southeast Virginia has developed a fleet of drones that can help support utility providers in emergency situations. As Jonas recently demonstrated, snowstorms and other natural phenomena can be a nightmare for utility companies and their customers. Instead of calling on all available resources during a severe storm, utility providers may soon be able to use drones instead.

HAZON Solutions is a company that is using drones to restore power and prevent further damage in the event of a storm. During an emergency, companies can use the drones to check power lines, bridges and other vital infrastructure. Using drones to carry out the precision inspections allows companies to save time and energy inspecting each location in person. The information can then be used to determine necessary restoration efforts and how best to deploy personnel.

The technology ultimately helps keeps humans out of harm's way, while carrying out necessary emergency services.
