US Open finalist Novak Djokovic has a well deserved reputation as joker for doing dead-on funny imitations of the serves of fellow tennis players including Nadal, Sampras, Roddick, Hewitt and Sharapova, but he has refrained from impersonating his opponent in the US Open final, Roger Federer. That was until someone very recently took a video of him in the locker room and posted on YouTube, where it has been gathering attention. Wonder if Federer will watch it before their match today?
We've been through Andy Roddick against Federer, to the point of tedium. Rafael Nadal's hardcourt game still needs improvement, and his body gave out in a disappointing loss to Ferrer. Djokovic has become the story of this tournament, and only partly because he so amused the tennis public with his impressions of Maria Sharapova and Rafael Nadal on Thursday night.
Before that match, when journalists asked Federer about Djokovic's game, he said he "wasn't that much impressed." Coming from Federer, who seldom has a bad word for anyone, the comment was telling. And after Djokovic had pulled the upset, Federer called the result "insignificant."
Maybe that's why Djokovic hasn't revealed his Federer impersonation to the man himself. "I'm hiding it from him," Djokovic said (like his other slapstick gems, it can be seen on YouTube.com). "I mean, I really cannot do Roger. He's the untouchable one. He's too perfect."
