Viewed as an incovenience to their social lives, new teen drivers have found a way around graduated licensing laws - it’s called ‘trunking’. If they want to carry other teenage passengers in the vehicle, no problem! They simply smuggle them in the trunk.

Law enforcement angencies are looking at ways to enforce traffic safety laws and and get the message across to kids and parents that this practice is not only illegal - it’s very dangerous.

A startling new trend has emerged among teenagers. Just to get around the new graduated license laws - that ban new drivers from having other kids in the car - some teens are now riding in the trunk. (connectwithkids)

I've offered to let my friends ride in my trunk plenty of times. I wouldn't do it, but the way I see it, it's 'good for the environment' to carpool, and it's less dangerous than riding in the cab of a car without seat belts because you won't be propelled OUT of the car and your body won't hit another person. That's one of the leading causes of death; one unbuckled body flying into another body.
