Trend Hunter 2 Sneak Peak - PLEASE COMMENT [Edit]

Trend Hunter 2 Sneak Peak - PLEASE COMMENT Click for Larger Image

Here’s a sneak peak at some of the rough formatting for a new front page… You’ll note that it has more of a magazine feel to it.  Note that I haven’t been getting into the details (like graphic resizing or making sure everything is there), but the design should give you a good idea of what’s next.  Please leave a comment with your feedback.

Neat-o.

i like the 'featured' video/pictures to the right. sometimes the main picture does not grab enough attention, so it is good to expose the trends with interesting pictures and videos. i also like the live feed few thumbs, but it might cause concern when the new trend has a faulty thumb pic (like what's going on while i am writing this comment). so maybe it needs to be selective about which to display on the main page. Good job JG :)

I love the size of the Featured Area pictures (Right side) but now the pictures in the left side looks poor for me, maybe under a black background looks better and in the right side maybe under a gray background or black, the "become a trend Hunter" banner has a great concept.Good improvement Sir.

So great, I adore it! I love the big images on the far right from the featured gallery. With some posts it's hard to decide which photo to use as the main, but this is perfect. It will help draw readers in too. The super banner is fantastic. Trend Hunters, do you think a new image each day of the week is a good idea? Would you rather look at a woman? Or have it switch? Or have a choice?

I love 'become a TH' pic, especially the focus on the eye since its about "hunting". But yeah, I think creating a few pictures (man, woman, punk, geek, young, old...) to represent the diverse nature and background of hunters. Then you can have them randomly and dynamically change.

I really like it - the large images are v good. My only comment would be that sometimes the images people upload (myself included) are not great. So perhaps need to be a lot stricter. I think the strongest images would work very well - dare I say it (forgive me J) one of the reasons cool hunter looks so good (despite being light on content) is the photography.

All great comments... I will keep you all in the loop and try to integrate as much as possible. To touch on one of Em's comments, since we will be featuring several posts on the right AND a video each day, we would be messing with the order a bit to make sure that posts with beautiful pictures get the extra attention.

By: Jeremy Gutsche on Mar 3, 08 | 1391 Trends | 604 Comments

Yes, since only a few trends will be featured on the right(4?), this will be a good motivation for us to use the captivating hi-quality images and coordinate the pic sizes, such that the trend would be featured. I think it's a great incentive to pay extra attention to the look of the trend. Many readers pay more attention to the images of the trend than the text.

thats a spicy meat-a-ball

By: Chris Skleryk on Mar 3, 08 | 135 Trends | 74 Comments

Okay, I updated a new version and loaded it to the front page... Note that it still has 60 on the front page b/c that's how many we published today. Please let me know if anything looks messed (especially if you have a Mac)... Also: AyMan, there is no need to resize the photos to be the same width(thats automatic)... Just upload 3 or more nice photos and then you could be one of the featured galleries.

By: Jeremy Gutsche on Mar 4, 08 | 1391 Trends | 604 Comments

Nice! More engaging. With different size graphics, it appears less automatic, more disruptive, more interesting. Draws you in, makes you want to explore the whole page. Good work!

Yeah, I know the images are automatically adjusted in the featured viw. But I have seen so many trends (mine included) where the picture sizes are so varied, it disturbs the look of the trend layout. I agree with Em that pictures are an important part of the trend, so we should try to present them as nicely as we could. sometimes all it needs is resizing or cropping a part to make them look nice and adjusted inside the trend

You're all amazing, it's so great to hear your input! This feels like a real community now, and I just wanted to say thanks to everyone for helping bring the site to where it is!

Seems great. The giant banner ad in the middle of the page caught me off guard though. I agree with all above and say the bigger pics make it work.
