Tony Awards host Neil Patrick Harris awed and shocked crowds once more last night at the annual Broadway bigwig event. For his fourth time as the host of the Tony Awards, Harris opened the show with a grandiose number that claimed to make Broadway "bigger."
'It's Bigger' featured the casts of celebrated hits like Once, Matilda, Kinky Boots and A Christmas Story. Harris's musical rendition even featured a surprise guest: Mike Tyson. The ex-fighter appeared onstage and joined Harris in singing before jokingly trying to bite his face.
This number's brilliance and pizazz demonstrates once more that bigger sometimes is better. With Broadway, that's often the case. Harris's flashy number is a tribute to the bedazzling song and dance numbers essential to Broadway's identity. However, as tributary as Harris's number is, it still maintains a tongue-in-cheek quality that pokes fun at Broadway culture.
It's no surprise that Harris's 'It's Bigger' number has swept through newsrooms and Internet forums. Its lighthearted, fun and multi-talented qualities all serve to make it a television event of a lifetime.
