Tokyo’s hip elite have evidently embarked on a journey to redefine sushi, that ubiquitous traditional Japanese food which for so long was Japan’s own secret. Now though, myriad versions can be found in any city in the world, and a group of Japanese designers, sushi-chefs, and architects, have created a series of underground raw fish based events. Combining music and fashion and fish, I wish they’d send out some more invitations!
A new underground group in Tokyo has created a series of sushi parties, in which expert sushi chefs combine top-quality sushi with modern sculpture-esque creations, chill lounge music, and a deep red speakeasy-like bar replete with models, sushi connoisseurs and designers. It ain’t cheap, but that manages to weed out the kaiten-sushi scum crowd.
