Tiny creatures on Dinosaur Time Revealed on X-Rays
The paleontologist, Paul Tafforeau was scrolling through the images through his computer. As he plays with the settings, an unmistakable outline of an insect was formed. A collosial X-ray machine that illuminated the insides of small lumps of clouded amber produced the images.
In Genoble, France, the European Synchroton Radiation Facility (ESRF) can produce an intense high-energy that pierces at any material to reveal its inner structure. Dr. Toffereau and Malvina Lak put kilos of opaque amber chunks in the way of the beam and identified 360 fossil animals from more than 600 blocks---all of it was caught up in sticky goo of a prehistoric tree until science paved way for the discovery.
