The Syrinx by Jesper Nilsson is a neat little gadget that is aimed to reduce the amount of stress and tears that are often associated with a child's first blood test.

Meant to look like a cute little critter, the Syrinx comes with a book that immerses the child in what is about to happen, after which the child is allowed to choose which Syrinx they would like used. This allows the child some form of control in a stressful situation. At the end of it, the needle is detached from the Syrinx, and it is taken home as a new toy.
