While most people probably don't look at tennis courts when searching for fashion trends, perhaps more will do so in the future. Wimbledon and the US open are increasingly being used as a platform to show off innovative sportswear.
Reviews of Maria Sharapova's recent Wimbledon fashion ensemble have been very mixed; some people loved the white Nike tennis tuxedo she sported at the championships, while others deemed it a visual atrocity. Other Wimbledon stars to receive fashion critique from the media include Roger Federer for a herringbone-patterned, pale yellow Nike cardigan and Serena Williams for a short trench coat.
The most attention so far has been on Sharapova's tux. "I love men's wear in general," the 21 year old said, "I love tuxedo jackets."
Considering she's 6'2", shopping in the menswear department shouldn't be a problem for her.
The gallery also includes images of the outfit Ana Ivanovic will wear, complete with Luca Carati diamond jewelry and the white tennis dress Venus Williams designed for Wimbledon for her own line, EleVen by Venus Williams.
Also shown are photos of Serena Williams at the US Open 2007 in pink plaid and again at the 2004 US Open in black, sporting custom-made knee-high boots.
