Leave it to fashion-savvy tennis queen Maria Sharapova to bring denim to the courts. The 22-year-old Russian professional tennis player rocked a head-to-toe blue ensemble at the Roland Garros 2009 French Open.

Maria Sharapova wore what looked like a denim visor, blazer and simulated jean tennis dress to the Grand Slam tennis tournament in Paris, France earlier this month.

Of course, it wasn’t real denim, as it would be impossible to perform well on the courts in stiff jean material, but the azure colors she chose were very reflective of the fabric that’s so in this season.

Maria Sharapova has aced yet another fashion look!

Denim-look tennis apparel has made its way on and quickly off the court a few times. Andre Agassi wore stretch denim as did Serena Williams a few years ago. It always looks oddly out of place. I was thrilled to see Maria back and playing well but the outfit style didn't fit in the setting--denim/cocktail in such an earthy athletic environment, uncomfortable on the eyes.

Denim on the courts past: 1 (LINK)
Here's one example I found on the web of Andre Agassi in denim on the courts. US Open 1989. Not the best look.

Maria is an icon in the tennis world and continues to bring crowds wherever she goes. I'm just glad she's continued to improve this year and get back in the game. It's been great for the tennis world. Much better than the whole Ashley Harkleroad Playboy incident.
